How To Create A Functional Outdoor Space You Will Love

You don't have to be an exterior designer to create a nice outdoor space. It doesn't matter if you have a large or a small yard or even a balcony, any open space can be redecorated into a highly functional and beautiful place.

Most events, such as birthdays, ceremonies and annual get-togethers, seem nicer if they are celebrated outside. So don't waste time and create that perfect outdoor space you and your family will love. Here are some tips to get you started.

1. Go Green or Go Home

One of the easiest and definitely most effective ways to give your garden or a patio a charming look is to fill it with plants. Avoid concreting your backyard, and give it some softness with trees, bushes, grass, and flowers. Be moderate in everything, though, and refrain from overfilling your garden with various plants, as you want to go for a neat and charming look, not a jungle.

Plant your flowers in pots and arrange them by size and colour to give your balcony an interesting and inviting vibe. Also, it’s very trendy to hang your flowerpots on the wall, it gives an illusion of a bigger and well-arranged space. But it’s important to know how to take care of your plants, take care of the conditions in which your plants will grow and water them regularly.

2. Hey good looking, what you’ve got cooking?!

Imagine this, you’re sitting in your garden, sipping wine, talking to your friends, while cooking a meal. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? Even though it sounds impossible, it isn’t! Consider implementing an outdoor kitchen in your backyard. You can even make it by yourself or with the help of a friend, and turn your deck into the best hangout place in the neighbourhood.

Build in a beautiful stone grill and spice your bar up with a mini-fridge to keep your drinks cool at all times. And the best part of it all is that you don’t need a large yard. Build your outdoor kitchen in the exterior wall of the house and create a cozy corner for the chef. But be careful not to burn your house down.

3. Sit in style

Every patio or balcony should have a sitting area for sunny days and busy nights. Depending on the style you’re aiming at, create your space with different types of chairs and seats.

If you’re more of a conventional type, go for a classy garden chair and a tea table look. It’s a timeless combination that will make anyone feel like they’re a kid at their grandma’s house again. Add some cushions and candles to that combination to make a comfortable but romantic sitting area. To go for a boho style on your balcony, put up a carpet and pillows for floor sitting, decorate your wall with fairy lights and motivational quotes. It could be a comfy place for hanging out with your friends or playing card games with family.

In case you want to create a modern sitting space in your backyard, a lounge should be your top choice. Outdoor loveseats, beanbags or even a swing will make your backyard look friendly and inviting.

4. Under the stars

In case you don’t have a yard or a balcony, don’t be down in the dumps as there’s always a solution and it this case it’s called an open roof. Having an open roof gives you endless possibilities.

For example, you can go for a modern open roof design with just the right view of the stars from your jacuzzi, or opt for a comfier alternative and make a sitting area with lots of plants. You don’t have to worry about them getting enough sunlight as you have an open roof. It’s very eco-friendly and it looks amazing too. Your house will be the star of the neighbourhood. Besides that, the open roof is also ideal for romantic dates under the starry sky, or relaxing nights while watching a film.

5. Kid at heart

Whether you have kids or not, having a play area in your yard is fun and can be used as a bonding activity with family and friends. Make your youngsters happy by building a treehouse. You could also set up a mini playground with a swing and a slide. This will get your kids out of the house and make them forget about technology for a while.

As adults like to play too, consider building your own billiard table and organise tournaments with friends. If your patio is large enough, implement football goals and kick it with your friends and kids.

Conclusion

Having a beautiful yard isn’t hard. Invest in making you and your family happy and you won’t regret it. Whether it’s a beautiful night or a sunny day, at all times you will have a functional place to relax and have some fun. And the most important part is that it will truly feel like home.
